Since 2007, the Belgian Antique Dealers’ Fair (BRAFA) has provided the King Baudouin Foundation with a wonderful opportunity to present its mission of safeguarding Belgium’s heritage and transmitting it for future generations.
Each year our stand shows works that have recently been acquired thanks to our Heritage Fund and generous donors. This year, we are pleased to exhibit works by van Dyck and Jordaens that reappeared in a bequest made to the Foundation, as well as an exceptional Art Nouveau statue acquired thanks to the Léon Courtin-Marcelle Bouché Fund and a magnificent Book of Hours, a unique testimony to the production of miniatures that was a speciality of Tournai in the early 16th century. All of these works can be admired alongside other pieces from our collections, including the famous ‘paintings by four hands’ by Serge Vandercam and Hugo Claus and some extraordinary Asian chofas (architectural roof decorations).
However, the 2017 BRAFA will be particularly special for the Foundation because every day, at 16h, we shall be hosting a lecture as part of the BRAFA Art talks. The lectures will be under the attentive eyes of Maurice Wyckaert, Antoine Mortier and the beautiful Baroque terracotta statuettes.
