From 6 July to 26 August 2012, the Centre d’Art Contemporain Boris Bojnev in Forcalquier, France, is organizing an exhibition in homage to Michel Butor (b.1926) under the title Les mots dans la peinture (Words in painting), the title of a well-known book written by Butor and published by Skira and subsequently by Flammarion in 1994.
As Michel Butor has only published books about artists over the last twenty years, he has chosen to present works by those artists with whom he has worked (Alechinsky, Dotremont, Parant) or which correspond to the theme of the exhibition (Pécheur, Alberola). The works were mentioned in many of Michel Butor’s books about artists, some of which come from the collection of the Maison du Livre d'Artiste in Lucinges, in Haute-Savoie, whilst others are from Michel Butor’s private collection or from other private collectors.
They include:
from the Christian Dotremont Fund, bequested by his brother Guy to the King Baudouin Foundation and entrusted to the Archives et Musée de la Littérature in Brussels.
This event is part of the Rencontres littéraires en Haute-Provence.
