Between 15 September and 24 October 2014, the Royal Museum of Central Africa (RMCA) will be welcoming 10 pre-doctoral and doctoral students to take part in the Archive Immersion Programme. Financed as part of the Framework Agreement on Cooperation and Development, this programme enables students in the social sciences, politics and law etc. from the Congo, Rwanda and Burundi to study here. The Museum is making relevant documents from its unique archives available to the students for their doctoral research.
The Henry M. Stanley Archives, belonging to the King Baudouin Foundation and entrusted to the RMCA, will provide valuable insight for the students’ research in fields such as respect for the environment of the time, the status of women and issues relating to so-called ‘traditional’ authorities at the end of the 19thcentury in the regions where Stanley travelled.
