The young pianist Frederico Gad Crema, laureate of the Prize Claire and Michel Lemay, presented an impressive performance in Leuze on Saturday night. The International contest André Dumortier is supported by the Claire and Michel Lemay Fund, which is managed by the King Baudouin Foundation.
Founded in 1994, the biennial Piano Competition is dedicated to André Dumortier. Achieving international status since 2003, the competition welcomes young pianists from all around the world, no older than 26 years, searching for a musical ideal Dumortier pursued. This elite performer and great teacher was awarded the Eugene Ysaÿe Competition (currently the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition of Belgium) in 1938. This contemporary man, who died in 2004, captivated by ideals and spirituality, was constantly searching for the knowledge of truth and consistency. He always welcomed his students with a warm reception, demanded much from them, but also offered kindness, joy and fantasy.
