The treasure of Oignies is a collection of some fifty pieces of 13th century silverware. The silverwork exhibits a great lightness, fluidity, technical complexity and creativity that make it an exceptional ensemble. As long ago as 1978, the treasure was classified as one of the seven wonders of Belgium.
This publication approaches the treasure as a quest to try and uncover the mystery of the collection, presenting the facts, actors and context of the treasure, whilst trying to take a new look at it by placing it in a wider historical, political, religious and economic context.
