At this year’s BRAFA Art Fair, the King Baudouin Foundation is pleased to present the latest acquisitions from its collection and to bring to the general public’s attention the ongoing investment made by the Foundation in our heritage and culture. We will be delighted to welcome you to our stand (no. 137), between January 28th and February 4th 2024, at the Heysel in Brussels.
As is its custom, the King Baudouin Foundation will be present at BRAFA’24, to highlight its ongoing commitment to our heritage and culture and to present some of its recent acquisitions and other masterpieces.
The centrepiece of our stand will be the Portrait de Marguerite by Fernand Khnopff, the famous Belgian Symbolist artist. Later this year, the painting will also be exhibited at the MRBAB exhibition Imagine! 100 Years of International Surrealism, where it will testify to the links as well as the break in lines between Surrealism and its precursor, Symbolism. The occasion for the Foundation to exhibit this painting, one of its first and most important acquisitions, at BRAFA in the year when the art fair is honouring the Surrealism movement.
The works that the Foundation will exhibit at the BRAFA reflect both the quality and diversity that constitute the great richness of our collection. You will have the opportunity to discover a Flemish Primitive painting, a rare, 17th century statuette by Maria Feydherbe, a 17th century gold and diamond rosette ring recently listed as a masterpiece of the Flemish Community, a spectacular silver, 18th century Mechelen samovar, an exceptional 19th century watercolour by Félicien Rops, a saxophone made by Adolphe Sax and a host of other extraordinary objects.
The 2024 BRAFA will also be celebrating the centenary of the birth of Surrealism. It will pay homage to Paul Delvaux, the famous Brussels Surrealist painter who died 30 years ago, and welcome the Paul Delvaux Foundation as guest of honour. To mark this occasion, the King Baudouin Foundation will also exhibit on its stand some particular Surrealist works of art including Le Verre d’Eau (The Glass of Water) by the Belgian Surrealist artist Jane Graverol, and some of the original drawings from Vendredi, a unique, handwritten magazine, created by Belgian Surrealists.
We look forward with pleasure to welcoming you to our stand No. 137.
