Louis and Françoise Tordeurs-Gadenne have donated their collection of paintings by Walloon artists to the King Baudouin Foundation as well as their collection of decorative arts in order to preserve them for future generations.
Collection of paintings by Walloon artists
The aim of the Louis Tordeurs-Gadenne Fund is to showcase paintings by artists from Wallonia and their successors who were part of all forms of the Abstract art movement during the 20th century.
The collection comprises mainly Walloon painters recognized as members of the Ecole de Paris and so it is the works of Joseph Lacasse, Henri Michaux, Raoul Ubac and Jo Delahaut that form the cornerstone of the collection. There are also works by major abstract artists of the period (including Engel-Pak and Closon) and Walloon painters who followed the movement, such as Silvin and Franck, as well as works by painters who were part of the Art concret en Hainaut (Concrete Art in Hainaut) movement, founded in Mons in 1973.
Decorative arts collection
This collection comprises around a hundred crystal vases, glasses and carafes produced between 1890 and 1937 by the world-famous crystal manufacturer Val-Saint-Lambert.
The collection also includes Art Nouveau furniture by Emile Gallé and Louis Majorelle, both of whom were members of the Ecole de Nancy.
