Malgorzata Chomicz, Fumio Yamaguchi and Henri Dupont are the winners of the 2020 René Carcan International Prize for Printmaking. Through this prize, the René Carcan Fund, managed by the King Baudouin Foundation, aims to promote the art of printmaking and engraving at international level.

The René Carcan International Grand Prix, worth 5,000 euros, has been awarded to Polish artist Malgorzata Chomicz. Malgorzata studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań and Kraków. She is Professor at the University of Warmia and also works at the Pedagogic Institute of Olsztyn, her home town. Winner of several prizes and mentions, she regularly participates in various competitions and biennials. Malgorzata Chomicz has also been awarded the René Carcan Public Prize.

The Japanese artist Fumio Yamaguchi has been awarded the First Mention, worth 3,000 euros. Fumio Yamaguchi studied at Utsunomya University and works as a teacher. He has won several national prizes and takes part in various biennials arround the world.

The Second Mention, worth 2,000 euros, has been awarded to the Belgian Henri Dupont, who graduated from Saint-Luc in Liege and from the Art School of Braine-l’Alleud. The artist is also a master glassmaker and integrates applications used in glassmaking in his engraving techniques. He has taken part in several biennials, including in Belgium, France and Portugal.

The prize winners’ works are currently exhibited at the Bibliotheca Wittockiana and will be on show until 23 February 2020.
