This exhibition presents some 70 sculptures, drawings, paintings and archival documents of the Belgian artist Alfred Courtens (1889-1967). The works provide the visitor with a representative and intimate overview of the artist.
Known above all for his portraits of the royal family, busts of officials and his monumental equestrian statues, this exhibition reveals hitherto unknown facets of Alfred Courtens’ work: drawings, pastels, medals, bas reliefs, graceful mother and child groups, naturalistic busts of women and children, Art Deco figures and male portraits. « Alfred Courtens, sculpteur » reveals work that ranges from the sensitive to the solemn.
The exhibition and its accompanying publication have been organized within the framework of the Alfred Courtens Fund, whose objective is to honour and perpetuate the memory of Franz and Alfred Courtens.
