The Mons Musée des Beaux-Arts is currently showing some of the many manifestations of Belgian geometric abstraction.
It was in the mid-1940s that a series of artists got together around an ideal of structure and measure as a means of promoting non-figurative art based on geometric shapes. Their aim was to contribute to re-building society but also to integrate art into day-to-day life and make it available to everyone.

The exhibition is diverse with works coming from a number of disciplines, so that paintings can be seen alongside sculptures as well as textiles and jewellery. Jo Delahaut, Walter Leblanc, Gaston Bertrand and Pol Bury are among the artists whose works are exhibited.
