« Marie de Flandres. Paysages romantiques »

18th of June 2015

This summer, visitors to the Royal Palace will have the opportunity to discover the Chronique des Amerois, created principally by Princess Henriette of Belgium (1870-1948), daughter of the Count and Countess of Flanders.

Somewhere between a diary and a visitors’ book, the chronicle’s two albums describe, through short accounts, the lives of King Leopold II and his family during their stay at the Château des Amerois.

The illustrations, which are usually watercolours, represent a variety of landscapes, animal scenes and leisure activities.

The Chronique des Amerois is part of the Goffinet archives, acquired by the King Baudouin Foundation in 1993 and entrusted to the Royal Palace archives in Brussels. The Foundation has recently collaborated with Olivier Defrance to publish an illustrated book about the work.

The exhibition « Marie de Flandres. Paysage romantiques » featuring the artistic talents of members of the Belgian Royal Family will be open from 22 July to 6 September and during the annual summer opening of the Royal Palace.
