The award ceremony for the second René Carcan International Prize for Printmaking took place at the Bibliotheca Wittockiana on February 4, 2016. All of the works shortlisted by the jury will be exhibited there between 5 and 21 February 2016.

The jury selected twenty-three prizewinners from among around one hundred candidates, to take part in the final selection for the prize, now in its second year. The prize is open to printmakers and students in engraving from around the world. Each artist is asked to submit a minimum of four recent engravings.

Four prizes were awarded: the International Grand Prix (€5,000), First Mention (€3,000), Second Mention (€2,000) and the Public’s Prize, voted for by Internet users. During the exhibition at the Bibliotheca Wittockiana, visitors will also have the opportunity of buying works created by the twenty-three short-listed artists.

To further this project, the not-for-profit organisation Espace René Carcan, organiser of the prize and heir to the foundation created during René Carcan’s lifetime, has joined forces with the King Baudouin Foundation. The resulting fund has as its objective to promote the art of printmaking, thereby fulfilling the wish of René Carcan (1925–1993) to promote a little known discipline.
