In zijn werken vermengen zich wijsheid en droom, naïviteit en openhartigheid, zin voor humor en filosofie, maar ook vaak zinspelende tekstjes. Wishing to make his work better known among the general public, the distinguished Belgian artist Lionel Vinche (°1936), approached the King Baudouin Foundation and made a donation of six important paintings. Described as a “champion of free expression”, Vinche cannot be assigned to any one artistic movement. His is an unusual world, inhabited by birds, Jacks of Spades, flowers and other strange things, which are no more, no less than the astonishing world of … Vinche! The six acrylic canvases offered to the Foundation were created between 1983 and 2011 and are a perfect illustration of the artist’s career. Authentic “poet of the brush and the quill”, Vinche’s paintings represent daily life in words and images, impregnating it with a plural dimension, by turns sensible and dreamlike, naïve and frank, humorous and philosophical. The six works have been entrusted to the Artothèque of Mons, a new space chosen to house the heritage of Mons. Vinche’s works can now engage in dialogue with those of the Neirynck Collection, bequeathed to the Foundation in 2004. Moreover, Vinche was part of a group of artists closely followed and supported by Neirynck.
