Roberto Pozzo has donated over 9,000 tiles to the King Baudouin Foundation. The collection is particularly impressive not only on account of the number of tiles, but also because of their diversity – their formats, periods, styles, types, techniques and place of origin.
The Pozzo Collection is an absolute reference for the development and success of industrial tile-making in Belgium between 1840 and 1940 and its importance at European level. The collection has now been entrusted to the Gilliot & Roelants Tile Museum in Hemiksem.
A selection of exceptional tiles will be exhibited on Sunday 18 June to mark the 10th « Gilliotmarkt » in Hemiksem. The tiles will be at the centre of the event taking place at 14h, in a lecture given by art historian Dr Mario Baeck. We look forward to seeing you there!
